Reggae Beach to Nevis Water Taxi — Private Transfers

Reggae Beach at Cockleshell Bay on the south-east tip of St. Kitts is where the water-taxi leg of a St. Kitts to Nevis crossing begins. It is the closest practical launching point to Nevis, and Book Nevis uses it as the mid-point of pre-arranged transfers between the two islands. The crossing is short, scenic, and the fastest path from St. Kitts onward to Oualie Beach, the Hamilton Beach area, or the Four Seasons resort.

Why Reggae Beach

  • Closest mainland point to Nevis — around 6–10 minutes on the water to Oualie Beach Pier.
  • Four Seasons Resort Nevis guests are routed differently: the direct private water-taxi transfer to the Four Seasons Nevis pier departs from Majors Bay, not Reggae Beach, and takes around 15–20 minutes on the water.
  • Quiet, beachfront launch — no scheduled-ferry queues, no waiting room.
  • Water, local bottled soft drinks and local bottled beer on board. Luggage handled end-to-end.

Why we don’t offer walk-up Reggae Beach pickups

Reggae Beach is used by water-taxi operators travelling between St. Kitts and Nevis, but Book Nevis does not offer a standalone service where guests make their own way to the beach and wait for a boat.

We use Reggae Beach as part of selected pre-arranged Book Nevis transfers, where the St. Kitts road transport and the confirmed water-taxi operator coordinate the handover between them. Your driver stays with you until you are handed over to the boat that is expecting you.

That matters more than it sounds. On a pre-arranged transfer you know which boat you are travelling on, what the crossing costs before you leave, and where you will land in Nevis. Arriving independently and waiting on the sand means taking whichever boat happens to be there, on whatever terms are offered once you reach the other side. Arranging the whole journey in advance removes that uncertainty.

How the journey works

  1. We meet you at SKB arrivals after customs, or pick up from your St. Kitts hotel — look for a Book Nevis sign.
  2. Private 25–30 minute drive to Reggae Beach.
  3. Short walk on the sand to your private boat, where your driver hands you over to the confirmed operator.
  4. Crossing: around 6–10 mins to Oualie Pier.
  5. Private taxi from your Nevis pier directly to your hotel.

Door to door, total time depends on your Nevis hotel: around 25–30 minutes by road, 6–10 minutes on the water, then an onward drive of a few minutes to around 30 minutes for properties farther from Oualie. Luggage moves with you from the vehicle to the boat and off again on the Nevis side.

Already at Reggae Beach?

If you are already at the beach without a booking, Book Nevis cannot send a boat to collect you — we do not run a walk-up service from Reggae Beach, so there is no dispatch to call. Whoever you travel with, settle these before you step onto a boat:

  • Arrange the crossing before you get to the beach rather than after.
  • Confirm which operator you are travelling with.
  • Confirm exactly where you will land in Nevis — Oualie Pier and Charlestown are different places with different onward drives.
  • Confirm the fare and how it is paid, before departure rather than on arrival.
  • Confirm the specific boat you are meant to board.

Ferry or water taxi?

The public ferry is a different service on a different route. It runs Basseterre to Charlestown, takes 25–45 minutes, keeps a published timetable and does not call at Reggae Beach at all; current sailing times are on our Nevis ferry schedule page. A water taxi from Reggae Beach is a private boat on a far shorter crossing, timed around your arrival rather than a timetable, landing at Oualie Pier. (Four Seasons Resort Nevis guests use a separate direct route from Majors Bay to the resort pier.)

Things to know

  • Reggae Beach has minimal shaded waiting area — we time pickups so you arrive when the boat is ready.
  • Crossing is calm in normal conditions. Crossings are subject to safe sea and weather conditions, and we will adjust arrangements if conditions make travel unsafe.
  • Boarding is from the beach, so soft luggage and sensible footwear make the transfer easier.
  • The Four Seasons pier is reserved for Four Seasons guests; most other Nevis transfers using this crossing arrive via Oualie.
  • Confirm your flight number, arrival time and Nevis address with us in advance — the road and water legs are timed against them.
  • Pre-booked only. We don’t operate a walk-up service from Reggae Beach.
