Nevis for Nature Lovers: Discovering the Island’s Natural Wonders
For travellers who want to slow down and notice the landscape, Nevis is a quiet powerhouse: a single dormant volcano covered in rainforest, ringed by reefs and warm-water beaches.
Nevis Peak
The 985m volcanic peak dominates the island. It is climbable as a guided full-day hike (steep, ropes in places, expect to get muddy). The reward is a 360° view across St. Kitts, Antigua, Saba, and Statia on a clear day.
Rainforest trails
Several lower-elevation rainforest trails are an easier introduction — Source Trail, Upper Round Road, and Hamilton Estate. Look for green vervet monkeys, hummingbirds, and orchids.
Reefs & marine life
Snorkel directly off Pinney’s Beach or take a boat to the reef on the west side. Larger trips can target rays, turtles, and the occasional reef shark.
Quiet beaches
Beyond Pinney’s and Oualie, Lover’s Beach (north) and Herberts Beach (south-east) reward a short drive with empty sand.
Hot springs
The historic Bath Hot Springs are mineral-rich and back open after a recent restoration. Admission is US$5 per visitor; Nevisians and citizens enter free.
